About
Taxidermist - James Salazar
Welcome to James’ New Creations Taxidermy. My studio is located in the ‘Heart of the Rockies’- Salida Colorado. Being an avid hunter and angler since a child, I developed a strong interest in wildlife and art which evolved into my passion for taxidermy
I began my taxidermy journey when I attended and graduated from The Colorado Institute of Taxidermy Training in 2006. Shortly after, I joined the Colorado Taxidermist Association. This opened the door for myself to be able to compete in taxidermy competitions and learn from some of the best taxidermists in the nation.
With joining the association I saw how in depth this art could be with mammals, birds but particularly fish. Fish Taxidermy is what some could argue as being the most difficult, and challenging. I knew I had to take this challenge of fish taxidermy and excel. So, I sought out and trained with 3-time World champion fish Taxidermist Mike Ross. In doing so, my fish taxidermy skills were improved.
This was a long road but paid off by earning many major awards and getting into the Masters division in the state competitions, a division I never imagined competing in. I am often referred to as a “fish guy” which is true, however, mammal and bird taxidermy is a very large part of my artistry.
A large variety of species come into my studio ranging from Elk, Mountain Lion, Bighorn Sheep and everything in between. I am happy to be able to offer a full taxidermy service for all of your taxidermy needs. I’m proud to be able to incorporate my 16 years of wildlife art and education into Your trophies.
I have never been an advocate for “assembling” an animal together for profit, or using a paint by number method. However I do believe in giving individual artistic attention to your trophy using the highest quality materials and the best tannerys in the nation. I prioritize detail, proper anatomy, and the use of actual reference to complete every piece.
Give me a call so we can get your story and trophy captured forever!
